Side meeting with Tun Daim Zainuddin further discussing where and how the Northern Territory might participate in BIMP-EAGA. Tun Daim bin ZaInuddin played a critically important part in negotiating a role for the Northern Territory in BIMP - EAGA notwithstanding Australia was not a member of ASEAN. Tun Daim was Finance Minister of Malaysia from 1984-1991. Economic Advisor to the Government, Chairman of the Northern Growth Triangle, the Labuan Development Authority and the Langkawi development Authority and Treasurer of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the leading party in Malaysia’s ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (National Front). He was also Malaysia’s representative to the East ASEAN Growth Area (EAGA). Recalled to public service during the Asian financial crisis.
