Courtesy call on the Chief Minster Shane Stone Parliament House Darwin by Australia's Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Miles Kupa. Miles Kupa was a career diplomat serving as Australian Ambassador to the Philippines (1996-99). He served twice in Thailand - on his first posting and as Deputy Head of Mission from 1982-83. He has also had assignments in Egypt, France, Iraq (as Ambassador, 1983-86), Indonesia (as Deputy Head of Mission, 1986-88). In 1991, Miles Kupa was seconded to the Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet. He was subsequently head of the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade (1991-93) and Head of DFAT's South and South East Asia Division (1993-95) before appointment to the Philippines. On ultimately returning to Canberra he served as Deputy Secretary with the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade. Ambassador Kupa was a strong advocate for the Northern Territory, attended NT EXPO's, supported Filipino delegations to the NT and our delegations to the Philippines.
