Peter McAulay AO QPM joined South Australia Police Force 1951 and graduated 1953 from the South Australia Police Academy; served in both uniform and Criminal Investigations Branch. In 1968 seconded to the Commonwealth Police to serve in the Australian Police Contingent of the United Nations Force in Cyprus. After serving in Cyprus for a year he returned in 1970 to command the multinational police force. After returning to South Australia and serving in a range of commands McAulay was appointed NT Police Commissioner 1978-1988. AFP Commissioner 1988–1994.
