Darwin Ambon Yacht Race

22 July 1996

Competing in the 1995 Darwin Ambon Yacht race as it then was. Ambon is the main city and seaport of Ambon Island and the capital of Maluka Province of Indonesia. The Northern Territory has a long connection with Ambon dating back many years. The race was originally organised by the Darwin Yacht Club, suspended for a period and then reborn as the Annual Spice Islands Darwin Ambon Yacht Race under the auspices of the Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association (Shane Stone was a long term Patron of Dinah Beach) and the Ambon City Government. Crew assembled under the Perkins Shipping banner comprised the 'Skipper' Jim Noonan, navigator Mal Sciacca, cook Shane Stone, deckhands Rob Stewart (also photographer), George Watkins and Tim Prichard. In many of the other photos on this site Rob Stewart is not featured as he was the photographer. The yacht owned by Jim Noonan was a monohull Mottle 33 designed by Australian Joe Adams - named the 'Frances Claire'.
