NQLIRA 6 months on

4 September 2019

Agency staff travelled thousands of kilometres through the flood-impacted area in North West Queensland to meet with those affected by the monsoon of January 2019. In September 2019, 6 months after the event Advisory Board members and Agency staff drove over 4,400kms through much of North and North West Queensland. Shane Stone was strongly of the view that Canberra based bureaucrats needed to get dirt under their nails, mud on their boots and travel the vast distances to understand the remoteness and challenges of Northern Australia. The opportunity also presented for the Board to convene with the Audit & Risk Committee in Karumba in the Gulf and for Minister Littleproud to join our Board meeting by invitation. Standing Liz Beardsley, Ken Clarke (Audit & Risk), Annie Ribbons, Col Hunter, Nico Padavan, David Galvin (Advisory Board), Don Heatly OAM (Advisory Board), Lembit Suur (Chairman Audit & Risk), Samantha Montenegro, Emma Robinson (Audit & Risk). Seated Greg Campbell (Advisory Board), Shane Stone, the Hon David Littleproud (Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management), and Tracey Hayes (Advisory Board). Peter Conran AM not in attendance.
