Portrait George Pell
Portrait of His Eminence George Cardinal Pell AC. Created Cardinal Priest of the Ttle Santa Maria Dominica Mazzarello 21 October 2003, Prefect for the Secretariat for the Economy 24 February 2014 - 24 February 2019. Conferred Companion of the Order of Australia Queens Birthday 13 June 2005. The citation read: 'For service to the Catholic Church in Australia and internationally, to raising debate on matters of an ethical and spiritual nature, to education, and to social justice'. Also recipient of the Centenary Medal 2001. Cardinal Pell had many Awards however as a proud Australian he chose for his portrait the Companion. Ironically he received his Award on the monarch's birthday, he voted for the Republic and at the Convention on the Republic established by the Howard Government in 1998, Archbishop Pell (as he then was) spoke passionately in support of a Republic.
